Corns and Callous

Corns and/or Callous are a very common foot problem.  They both come about due to pressure placed on the foot.  In all areas of pressure, skin will react by making more skin cells.  This is our body's way of protecting itself.  Unfortunately, this accumulation of skin cells can get to a point where the area becomes uncomfortable or painful.

A callous has a more diffuse formation whereas a corn is more localised.  No matter which one you are struggling with, we can removed it quickly and painlessly.  This is done with the use of a blade, whereby which the skin is debrided back (taken off).  This is the best form of treatment for both corns and callous.

Your podiatrist will also look at the cause of the pressure as quite often this can be fixed.  This could be due to ill-fitting footwear, how your foot is functioning, toe deformities or bony prominences.  Advice on footwear, orthotics or in-shoe padding may help to assist in prevention.

If you have any of these concerns, book an appointment to have them assessed and treated.
