Heel Pain

Heel Pain or 'Plantar Fasciitis' is a very common foot complaint.  The pain is usually on the bottom of the heel and sometimes through the arch of the foot.  Quite often there is pain when you first get out of bed or stand up after sitting for long periods.

This is the inflammation of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia acts like a rubber band and runs from your heel to your toes.  The pain you feel is from the overstretching of this tendon.  This causes microscopic tears in the tendon and therefore pain.

The causes of this inflammation can be due to poor functioning of the foot, tight calf muscles, hard surfaces, obesity and increased intensity and/or duration of exercise.  It can also be caused by the thinning of the fat pad under the heel (degeneration due to ageing).

If you are experiencing heel pain, book an appointment to have your feet assessed and treated.
