Knee Pain

Knee pain can be due to many factors.  You can get pain at the front of the knee, either side of the knee and behind the knee.  Depending on where the pain is and how it came about are key in diagnosing the problem.  Knee pain is common in runners, cyclists and skiers/snowboarders.

Your podiatrist will take a history from you including any incident of trauma, a description of the pain and any other relevant history.  A full biomechanical exam will be taken to check the range of motion in your knee, areas of pain and areas of weakness.  This will give us a good picture of what is going on.

Once diagnosis is made, your podiatrist will decide on the optimal course of action.  These can include orthotic therapy (should the cause be due to incorrect biomechanics), footwear assessment, strapping, referral to a physio, muscle strengthening/stretching and in some severe cases, surgery may be recommended.

The body is like a chain so if there are issues with foot function/posture there can be a direct effect on the knees.  If you are having knee pain, book an appointment to have them assessed and treated.
